Crystal Mountain Ski Vacations

If you are in or near Washington State, you should definitely check out Crystal Mountain. With an elevation of 7004 feet and a vertical drop of 3102 feet, Crystal Mountain actually sits below Mount Rainier, which has a top elevation of 14,408 feet. Between the months of November and April, several feet of fresh powder falls on Crystal Mountain, due to the cold Cascade storms common to the area. This is rough terrain, and there is little offered to beginners as far as the ease of the trails go. But lessons are available, as well as rentals for ski’s and other equipment. At Crystal Mountain, there are more than 2300 acres and fifty trails, making this the largest ski area in the state of Washington. There are ten lifts available: 2 high speed six passenger lifts, 2 high speed quads, 2 triple chairs, 3 double chairs, and 1 children’s surface lift. The season runs from the middle of November to the middle of April, when the most snow fall is experienced. There are several places to choose for lodging, meals, and nightly entertainment, but the biggest attraction is the skiing, of course. The Crystal Mountain Express Buss service runs on weekends from the middle of December to the middle of March. You will be picked up from your lodge and dropped off at the base plaza – where you can begin a full day of fun on the slopes. After a day of skiing, you should definitely head over to East Peak Massage & Fitness to take advantage of the hot tub, sauna, showers, and even the game room. Massages are also available, with a reservation. If your kids aren’t quite ready for the black diamond trails – but you are – you can register them in the Kid’s Club. The Kid’s Club is open from 8am to 4pm each day for children aged four to eleven years old. The kid’s aged 4 – 11 will be supervised while they ski on a ‘kid appropriate’ slope, and snowboarding is also available for children aged 7 – 11 years old. Your child will have fun, while being supervised and taught. The cost of the care includes a four hour lesson, a lift ticket, lunch, and supervision. Rental equipment is available for the kids for an additional fee. Everyone has fun at Crystal Mountain. It is a great place for a family vacation, but again, the slopes are more for intermediate skiers and expert skiers – although beginners will have fun as well. Just use good sense, and avoid trails that you don’t feel like your ready for.

Travel Tips For The First Time Flier

Since the horror of 9/11, airport security has become tighter than ever before. Every year they develop more rules about what you can and cannot take on a flight. Many of the items that could cause you to be held up by security are items that you would not think to leave out of your carry on or luggage. Some items can be packed into your luggage but not carried on the plane. Before you fly for the first time, make sure you check over these travel tips for the first time flier.
One of the best travel tips you will ever get is to err on the side of caution. If you are not sure of what can be carried onto the plan or put in your luggage, it is not something that you absolutely need, and/or it is something that you can buy when you get there, leave it at home. Not only will this travel tip keep you from spending eternity with airport security, it will lighten your load!
Another one of the best travel tips is to check with the airline or your travel agent before packing for your trip. Because security measures change so frequently, it is a good idea to get the most recent lists of contraband items for luggage and carry on bags. Make sure that you get the list for both carry on bags and luggage, because they will likely be different. You can also get other types of travel tips lists from airlines and travel agents when you are a first time flyer.
Lists of travel tips often neglect to mention medications. Even when you are flying within the country, it is a good idea to be prepared for emergency replacement of your medications. Make sure that you pack enough medication for your stay, as well as additional medication in case you are delayed in your return.
You should also make a list of all of your prescribed medications and dosages along with the name, address, and phone number of your doctor. Put it in a large zip lock bag with all of your medications, in their original prescription bottles. This will help you in two ways. First, it will help you move through security with your medications without too much trouble. Second, you will be prepared for any emergency replacements of your medications should they be lost or stolen. These travel tips about your medications will not only help you in security, but could save your life.

10 Reasons to Retire in Costa Rica

1) Cost of living: Those pension dollars will go a long way here, compared to most places. San José’s prices are among the second lowest of any city in the Americas, and the cost of goods and services is among the lowest in the world. You can hire a full-time maid for a couple hundred dollars per month and utilities run about 30 percent of their North American cost. A bus ride across town costs approximately 25 – 50 cents and taxi travel is very reasonable. A gallon of gas costs about $1.75, cars aren’t really required because of the low cost of public transportation.

A couple can live very well on $1200 per month, and live quite luxuriously for $2000.

2) A chance to catch some rays. The year round sunshine offers average annual temperatures that range from 31.7 C (89 F) on the coast to 16.7 C (62 F) inland. There is a long rainy season which lasts from April to December.

3) Lack of punctuality is a common complaint about the Costa Rican lifestyle. This is a Caribbean culture that does not feel the need to rush, and isn’t that what retirement is all about?

4) Unsurpassed beauty with a tropical climate and miles of white sandy beaches. Explore the ocean and jungle wildlife in a preserved and protected environment. Fill your days lounging by the ocean or golfing on a variety of challenging courses set in lush, tropical surroundings.

5) No complicated immigration laws. Moving to some countries can prove to be an administrative nightmare for some retirees. Not so, in Costa Rica where you will apply for either of two legal statuses:

“pensionado” (retired) status – you must receive a minimum of $600 per month or

“rentista” status – you must earn a minimum of $1000 per month for at least five years

In either case, these cards must be renewed every two years at an expense of $100. The applicant can run their own business if they choose, but must obtain a permit if they want to work someplace else.

6) Low taxes. Foreign residents are not taxed on income that is earned outside of the country and qualified pensioners are eligible for certain tax exemptions and incentives.

7) Investment opportunities. There are a number of investment choices in Costa Rica, such as agriculture, ornamental plants and flowers, livestock, tourism, real estate and the stock market. Small businesses can be very successful, especially if they offer a unique product with a high demand.
8) Real estate and housing costs. The timing for purchasing property in Costa Rica is now! Prices have started to go up as a result of the increased popularity of the island, but it is still a bargain overall.

9) Costa Rica has a low incidence of violent crime and strong political stability.

10) You’ll feel right at home. There are more Americans living in Costa Rica per capita than in any other country outside the US, and this has created a very Americanized environment.

German Laws Affecting Travelers

Know the German Laws
Germany’s popularity as a world-renowned vacation destination continues to grow exponentially. Each year, more people visit Germany from hundreds of countries spread throughout the world. Over 2.2 million Americans made Germany their choice for travel in the first six months of 2006 alone. Your travels throughout this magnificent country can be enhanced greatly by knowing a few laws and regulations native to Germany and Europe.
Entry and Travel in Germany
A valid passport is required to enter and move about Germany. For business visitors staying less than 90 days, a Visa is not required for Germany and other countries that are members of the Schengen Group that includes neighboring countries Belgium, Netherlands, France, Denmark, and Austria.
European regulations require that passports be stamped for documentation of entry into countries, but not all German points of entry are staffed to ensure this function is carried out. It may be necessary to arrange in advance to ensure that a proper stamp is available upon entry. Travelers without this stamp may be questioned at their time of exit without this proper documentation.
Safety in Germany
No matter how rare occurrences happen, travelers should always be aware of possible terrorist organization activity. While these instances occur in Germany much less frequently than in other parts of the world, its open border agreement with other European nations should be noted. Additionally, there have been a few, isolated past incidents of racial discrimination and aggravation of travelers. It is recommended that travelers avoid as much as possible areas where protests and demonstrations take place to maintain a maximum level of security. Know the locations and emergency contact numbers of local German law enforcement whenever traveling in Germany.
Driving in Germany
Driving in Germany can be a surprisingly pleasant experience for many visitors from other countries due to Germany’s distinct courtesy standards that its citizens enjoy and follow.
For many, a vacation in Germany wouldn’t be complete without a drive down the world-famous Autobahn, which has stretches that are devoid of speed limits. Accidents and automobile fatalities are notoriously low even on high-speed stretches of highway due to Germany’s laws governing driver courtesy. It is generally illegal to pass on the right side, where slower traffic is to stay. Additionally, the legal blood-alcohol limit can be significantly less than in other countries than in Germany, helping to ensure public safety.
Seatbelts are required to be worn by all vehicle passengers in Germany. Traffic officers can typically collect fines on-the-spot in routine traffic stops. If the driver does not have the funds to pay the ticket immediately on hand, the vehicle may be impounded until the fine is collected in certain circumstances.
Be sure to review local German laws regarding BAC limits and driver safety before getting behind the wheel.
Importing/Exporting
Germany has particularly stringent laws that apply to bringing in items and paraphernalia that pertain to World War II. Additionally fascist, racist, and Nazi propaganda in print or on computer or audio media is strictly forbidden to be transported in or out of country unless for very select circumstances – usually reserved for official historical and research purposes only.

Eating Italian Food during your Italy vacation

Italian food will be very important to you during and after your vacation in Italy. Most people are usually surprised by the diversity of food in Italy, especially if they expect to eat pizza, pasta and spaghetti during their time their. You may get your fill of these classics while you are in Italy, but you will also want to make sure you get your fair share of local delicacies too. Make sure the food you eat is made from locally grown ingredients, and make sure you pair the food with some great wine and you will be experiencing Italy at its best.

Italian food is classed into 3 regional types. Northern, Central and Southern. While visiting Northern Italy, you will find that the food here is less “Italian” than you would expect. For example they use less olive oil and more butter. They also eat more rice and corn polenta here than pasta, and tomato sauce is not used very often. Northern Italian food also includes a lot  of wild game found in the countryside. These include wild fowl, rabbit and quail. Northern Italy also has some coastal towns as well as some towns and villages near streams and rivers. So if you visit Northern Italy during your Italy vacation, you may eat a lot of seafood and fish.

What we know as “Italian food” comes from Central Italy. Olive oil, cheeses and rich tomato sauces all hail from central Italy. The coastal areas here are also well known for seafood. Italian cooking was said to have been born in Tuscany, which is a region in Central Italy. Some of the best olive oil comes from Southern Italy. But very little of it is exported so make sure you sample the olive oil here during your Italy vacation. Naples, a city in this area is well known for its pizza and southern Italy as a whole grows a lot of citrus fruits and has many vineyards. Some of the best wines in the world come from Southern Italy.

You may eat at several local restaurants during your vacation in Italy. However one of the best ways to sample some of the different food that Italy has to offer during your vacation is to take a cooking class, or make your vacation a culinary one. Many of these classes and culinary vacations include going on a winery tour or wine tasting events. Cooking classes can range from a few hours, to half a day and they range in price from about $150 to $250. Many of these are hosted by families in homes or small inns. Some of these classes are taught by excellent chefs many of whom have written Italian recipe books and manage restaurants. They will teach you which food goes with which wine to make for a delicious meal. During your Italy vacation you can also learn how to make your own homemade spaghetti and authentic tomato sauce.

Hot Winter Travel Destinations for Canadians

Ask Canadians where they are heading for a winter break and you are most likely to hear Mexico, Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Caribbean cruises. These tourist spots are quite hot among Canadians, because of their sun-soaked beaches and mildly warm climate. Industry experts agree that tourism demands for all these locations are hitting their all-time high because of the lavish accommodation, sight-seeing arrangements, and the variety of travel packages, which these destinations offer.

Mexican Coastal Resorts

In Mexico, Mayan Riviera, Cozumel on the Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun, and Los Cabos on Baja Peninsula are the most popular tourist destinations. Particularly, the Yucatan has witnessed a spectacular rise in resort and hotel development because of its amazing beaches and Mayan archaeological sites such as Chichen Itza and Tulum. The Mayan Riviera is also popular as the top destination for Canadian travelers. Climbing up the popularity charts are also Puerto Vallarta and a revitalized Acapulco on the Pacific coast. In Puerto Vallarta, the destination that is gaining rapid popularity is Nuevo Vallarta, which is located at north of the old town.

Growing Golf in Cuba

Cuba was devoid of any golf culture until the famous Varadero Golf was built. After it was set up, the island has just not looked back in terms of the sport’s popularity. Today, Cuba is the most sought after golf destination and is a vital attraction for the local as well as international sports lovers. Currently, the much famous Varadero Golf Club does over 32,000 rounds annually. It intends to add nine more holes to its existing facility, according to the management. A European has been given the responsibility to design the new golf site that is likely to have five holes on ocean, instead of the existing two.

Dominican Republic’s all-inclusive Packages

The growing popularity of The Dominican Republic as a tourist spot is reflected in a spectacular rise in its hotel rooms to nearly 40,000. The destination is among the favorite tourist spot for the Canadians, because of its all-inclusive vacations. In such packages, one up-front payment covers facilities including airfare, accommodation, unlimited alcohol, food, and resort activities like tennis and windsurfing. So much so that the popularity of the Dominion Republic’s all-inclusive packages have reached Caribbean and Mexican destinations. Canadian tourists heading to the Dominion Republic pay as low as $999 per person for an all-inclusive trip to a hotel/resort situated at just 10 minutes away from Puerto Plata.

Caribbean Cruises

Even the biggest tropical storms move at snail’s pace when compared with the cruise ships, which is the biggest reason for the growing popularity of the Caribbean cruises. The nice weather of the Caribbean serves like an icing on the hot cake. Even a hurricane in the cruise’s path seems like a vacuum cleaner that sucks the moisture out of the air, leaving behind bright sunny days for the tourists. Moreover, with the political uncertainties across the globe, the Canadians prefer holiday trips close to home, which is another reason contributing towards the increasing popularity of Caribbean cruises.
