Take A Ski Vacation In The Crystal Mountain

Voted number seven of the top mountains in North America by SKIING Magazine, Crystal Mountain Ski Resort has invested millions of dollars in its “top of the line high-speed lifts”, the Chinook and Forest Queen Express. With a summit of 7,012 feet and a vertical drop of 3,100 feet, it is easy to see why Crystal Mountain is considered the largest ski area in Washington, with over 2,300 acres and 50 named runs. In addition, the mountain has 1,300 acres of lift service, and 1,000 acres of back country. The ten lift service has 2 high speed six-passenger, 2 high speed quads, 2 triple chairs, 3 double chairs, and 1 children’s surface lift, with a capacity of 19,110 passengers per hour.

Considered the best ski area in Washington, novice skiers are offered gently winding cruisers, such as Queens Run, while the more seasoned experts use the narrow chutes in the 1,000 acre backcountry. The in-bound area of skiing is broken into four major sections: the main basic area of the mountain, including chairlifts Chinook Express, Discovery, Miner’s Basin, and Quicksilver; Rainier Express, or “Rex”, which includes the Rainier Express chair lift, accessing Green Valley; the valley below Silver Queen Peak, with the Forest Queen Express Chair, is an “intermediate’s paradise”; and Silver Queen, the most advanced terrain accessed only by an old-double chairlift, High Campbell, from the early 50s.

The Chinook and Rainier Express chairlifts rise 2,500 vertical feet to the top of Crystal Mountain, also a site for Olympian training for Scott McCarthy and Libby Ludlow. During the summer, the chairlifts are used for mountain biking, scenic rides, summer skiing in Green valley, and dining at the Summit House Restaurant. While at the top, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Baker can all be seen, along with fantastic scenery.

Crystal Mountain now has a children’s daycare and skiing/snowboarding lessons for parents who are busy skiing, yet need someone to help with the kids while they are on the slopes. The Kid’s Club is open from 8 am to 4 pm daily: for children who are ages 4 to 11-they are allowed to ski, and ages 7 to 11 are allowed to snowboarding. First come, first serve to register, with morning registration ending at 9:30 am and afternoon registration ending at 12:30 pm. A full day registration includes a four-hour lesson which starts at 10 am, lift ticket, lunch, and supervision, from 8 am to 4 pm. Skis, snowboards, and boats can be rented.

What Kind of Travel Experience Do You Want?

So you’re going on a trip. Fantastic! Exciting! But what sort of trip are you planning to take? Is it for business or pleasure? Where are you headed? Who are you going with? Just what kind of travel experience do you want?

Traveling on a budget can give you all sorts of experiences, depending on a) your budget, b) where you want to go, and c) what you want to do. Everyone’s budget will be different, and traveling on a budget means knowing how much money you can afford to spend and sticking to that amount. So if you have a budget of two thousand dollars, your travel experience will be different from someone who has a budget of ten thousand dollars. It’s all relative to the dollar amount, but knowing some tricks to help you save money while traveling will make your dollars stretch further therefore increasing your travel experience.

Do you want to travel overseas? Do you want to travel around your home country? Do you want to stay in luxury accommodation or are you going to back- pack? Are you traveling with children or are you honeymooning? Are you traveling with a bunch of friends or are you keen to experience a group tour with strangers? Do you want to go to popular tourist sites or do you want to experience a destination’s way of living in remote areas?

All these questions are things you need to ask yourself before you begin to plan your trip. You can either plan your trip with your budget in mind, or plan your trip, work out how much money you’ll need and save until you can get there. The first is probably a little easier to do because when the travel bug hits, you generally want to take off as soon as possible. Knowing your budget can guide you in making your decision of how and where you will be traveling. But if you have your heart set on a trip of a lifetime to an exotic island in the Pacific then you will need to save accordingly. It’s your choice.

Once you know what type of experience you are after, it’s time to work out the best way to get it on your available funds. Traveling on a budget is easier than you think these days. No longer does it mean living on stale food and sleeping in questionable accommodation. If you are wise and spend some time investigating deals to your chosen destination you could be able to enhance your traveling experience more than you thought possible. A bit of research will get you a long way when traveling on a budget.

Travel To Madrid: Europe’s Eldest Infant

Madrid may have been full of life by 1200 A.D. but it was not until 1979 that the capital city of Spain held its first free and democratic elections. The tumultuous tribulations of the 20th century have left a distinct flavor about the art, attitude and culture in Madrid. Visitors will find a thriving and exuberant local population proud and eager to share its resilient, if not neglected, history with the world.
The modern heart and soul of Spain is central to the entire Iberian Peninsula, making Madrid the ideal place to initiate your Spanish adventure. Madrid is also rich with Moorish heritage as it was a contentious battleground between the Islamic and Christian Empires for much of the modern era. A stroll through Barrio de la Morería (Moorish Quarter) invokes an essence of Medieval Madrid through ornate Islamic architecture and hidden plazas. The art and architecture of Madrid also speaks of the temporary but influential Habsburg and Bourbon Rules.
Museum Hop ‘Til You Drop
Madrid is the internationally celebrated home of Spain’s most prominent art collections. The Museo del Prado houses the world’s largest and most prized collection featuring over 8,600 master works by Velázquez, Goya, El Greco, Ribera, Raphael, Botticelli, Fra Angélico, and Rembrandt, to name a few. Since 1819, the collection has been moved twice – during the Spanish Civil War and WWII – and has sustained immaculate condition. The Prado is also a work of art in its own right, designed by famed 18th century architect Juan de Villanueva. For the grandeur and curious intricacies of contemporary Spanish art, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia is a crucial visit. Once you have managed to overcome the awe of Picasso’s Guernica, make sure to explore the fascinating world of Spanish photography, sculpture and film along with an incredible collection of Kandinsky, Miró and Dalí. Finally, take a journey through royal Madrid at the Palacio Real. The 2800-room palace is no longer inhabited by the royal family, but the walls are lined with elaborate frescos and original artwork by the likes of El Greco and Goya. Stop by the two beautiful gardens and get your fix of ancient apothecary remedies in the Farmacia Real.
Madrid in Present Tense
In Madrid it is easy to leave history behind and become immersed in the boisterous blooming lifestyle that fills the streets. The pulse of Madrid’s beating heart can be found in the Plaza Mayor, the town square built in 1619 by Juan Gómez de Mora. Although it’s unlikely you’ll be able to throw stones at heretics here anymore, console yourself with an alfresco drink and pastry at one of the many cafes. For the resilient shopper, do not miss the Sunday Rastro flea market along the Calle de la Ribera de Curtidos, where bargain hunters and pack-rats alike will be in seventh heaven.
Travel to Madrid for the perfect beginning to your Spanish vacation. Many captivating destinations lie just beyond the city, including the world heritage town of Alcala de Henares, the royal Aranjuez and the picturesque mountain town of Manzanares El Real.

Travel Insurance Claims

Holidays abroad don’t always go without a hitch. Every year UK travel insurance companies receive thousands of claims for compensation from unlucky holidaymakers. The most common claims tend to be for lost baggage, cancellation or medical expense. But being ambushed by monkeys, blazing brides and escaping hairpieces are examples of the more bizarre claims received by some of the UK’s largest travel insurers. Here are the 10 oddest travel insurance claims:1. Monkey BusinessMalaysian monkeys caused romantic getaway mayhem when a couple returned to their chalet to find their underwear, clothing and belongings strewn across the resort and neighbouring rainforest. Fortunately the travel insurer paid the claim for the clothes-less couple.2. Toupee overboardOne unlucky pensioner enjoying a cruise found his toupee overboard after a strong gust of wind lifted it off his head and blew it in to the sea. His travel insurance reimbursed him for the cost of his hairpiece.3. Don’t get stungA careless holidaymaker paid a painful price when he dropped his wallet down a drain in Natanya. The Briton’s claim wasn’t for his cash or credit cards though – it was for hospital treatment after he reached down the drain to rescue his wallet, and was stung by a scorpion. Luckily, his travel insurance covered the cost of the treatment.4. The unhappy campersAn unfortunate family had a shock when they were on a camping trip in a remote field in Wales, following a parachutist from a nearby airbase missing his target and landing on their camping equipment, destroying it. The family weren’t covered for accidental damage, so unfortunately their insurer did not reimburse them.5. Swimming smileWhilst on a cruise, one sickly pensioner lost his false teeth over the side of the ship when throwing up into the choppy seas of the Bay of Biscay. The misplaced dentures were thankfully covered in his travel insurance policy under lost baggage, so his claim was paid.6. Holy smokeA British couple’s idyllic wedding soon took a turn for the worse when the bride’s dress was caught alight by a brick of coal that fell from the BBQ. The smart-thinking groom quickly picked up his new blazing bride, ran down the beach and threw her into the ocean. Fortunately the couple had taken out wedding cover before tying the knot, so they could claim on their travel insurance policy for their ruined wedding outfits.7. Bad hair dayWhilst on holiday in Spain, a resourceful father had to rush his distressed daughter to the local hairdresser after she frazzled her hair on the oven in their apartment. The results were far from satisfying, leaving the poor girl running from the salon in tears. Her dad did try and claim on their travel insurance, but unfortunately was not reimbursed as they weren’t covered for accidental damage.8. Bikini distractionA man on holiday in Greece broke his nose by walking into a glass-panelled bus shelter, after getting distracted by two Greek goddesses in bikinis. His travel claim for hospital bills was successful.9. Life’s a beachFrustrated parents were shocked to find that their playing children had buried their £600 camcorder in the sand on a beach in Cornwall. Thankfully the insurer saw the funny side and refunded the cost.10. Lotions and potionsThe search was on for a wrinkle-free burglar in France after a woman had her cosmetics bag stolen, then later admitted she had transferred medical-strength haemorrhoid cream in to an empty moisturiser tub. Her claim for make-up, lotions and perfume was paid.
