Going Green â?? Ecotourism* and Sustainable Tourism** in Mexico

Green is a word we constantly hear on a daily basis, and for a very valid reason. With all the environmental challenges that affect our planet, governments, companies and consumers are becoming more and more aware of the issues and the many ways to improve our current situation. We all know that the Travel Industry is rapidly growing and at the same time changing. The impact it leaves on the tourist destinations and the planet in general is up to us and you, the travel consumer. As a Destination Management Company, we at Olympus Tours are committed to promote and respect the most valuable assets Mexico has to offer: from the amazing diving in Cozumel, the spectacular turquoise waters and archeological sites of the Mayan Riviera and newly renovated Cancun, to Mexico City’s architecture and culture, and all the way to the perfect combination of Vallarta’s green mountains overlooking the Pacific, to the breathtaking sunsets of Los Cabos. The following are some of the practices we implement as an Ecotourism and Sustainable tourism conscious company: â?¢ Spread the financial benefits amongst local people and suppliers. â?¢ Provide employment and leadership opportunities for local people. â?¢ Respect and most importantly promote local customs and culture. â?¢ Provide safe trips for our guests. â?¢ Limit the physical impact of trips in all destination communities-particularly sensitive natural and cultural environments. â?¢ Provide support to organizations and local communities. â?¢ Promote opportunities for guests to interact with local people. â?¢ Discourage the participation of our guests in activities which exploit animals – wild or domestic. â?¢ Work to prevent the exploitation of children in tourism. â?¢ Support and encourage fair employment practices. â?¢ Promote activities and excursions with suppliers that share our philosophy on Social Responsibility – most of Riviera Maya tours, and some of Cancun tours offered are focused on Ecotourism. â?¢ Recommend hotels and establishments with green practices – most of the hotels in Playa del Carmen and in general Riviera Maya hotels are eco-friendly. â?¢ Recycle everything possible in all our offices through out Mexico â?¢ Reduce energy consumption in all our offices. We invite you to make a positive contribution to the sustainable future of travel, the environment, and local cultures and economies around the world.

make a difference:

be aware and respectful of the culture and traditions of the place you are visiting, as well as be conscious of how you can help protect any endangered species in the region you are vacationing. Here are some tips you might want to consider: â?¢ Buy locally made souvenirs â?¢ Help preserve local wildlife and habitats – do not damage flowers, plants or coral, and do not buy products made from endangered plants or animals. â?¢ Do not have pictures taken of your self with animals of endangered species under captivity for commercial purposes such as monkeys, parrots and other exotic species. â?¢ Use water wisely – showers instead of baths, and inform hotel staff if you are happy to re-use towels and linen rather than have them changed daily. â?¢ Save energy – always turn off air conditioning, lights and TVs when not in use. â?¢ Learn about the culture and customs of the areas you visit. â?¢ Be sensitive about the cultural differences – in some cases very significant – of the locals

* What is Ecotourism?Ecotourism is a type of Sustainable tourism that emphasizes conserving nature and improving the lives of local people in rural and wilderness areas.

** What is Sustainable Tourism?Sustainable tourism is not just limited to areas of ecological significance, but actively aims to reduce negative impacts in general for urban, rural, and wilderness areas. Sustainable tourism looks at the needs of the present, but also focuses on current actions that can reduce negative impacts in the long run. It promotes economic viability, socio-cultural sensibility, and environmental sustainability at destinations of natural and cultural significance in both mass tourism and various niche tourism segments.

Mexico enjoys a cultural blend that is entirely unique. No wonder Mexico travel is one of those things that many people dream about.

Here are three of the most famous destinations in Mexico:

Cancun

Cancun is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico and the world. Its terrific setting, shaped like an island, its year-round mild climate, and its gorgeous, warm, sandy white beaches washed by the Caribbean Sea are perfect for water sports. Scuba diving and snorkeling are ideal here because of the warm crystal-blue Caribbean waters which are home to beautiful coral and active sea life. It is also known for its active nightlife. Downtown Cancun is your hot spot, with numerous world-famous bars and nightclubs that drive the night to the beat of everything from salsa and cumbia to club mixes and world sounds

Acapulco

Acapulco is one of the best places when it comes to Mexico travel. Generally, Acapulco offers a very good nightlife. Acapulco is not just famous for its explosive nightlife, but also for its beaches, unlimited watersports, supreme hotels, gourmet restaurants and the stunning physical beauty of Acapulco Bay. With a character as a haven for the rich and famous, Acapulco has everything a traveler could hope for.

Tulum

Tulum is located 80 miles from Cancun in the Yucatan Peninsula. The last city constructed by the Mayan civilization, was built on the cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The city thrived mainly from the 15th to the 16th century.  It was originally called Zama which means ‘Dawn’ and is related to its location, which lies on the extreme eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula, directly facing the sunrise.”    The beauty and the majesty of the Mayan city with the Caribbean as the backdrop was awe inspiring. Waves boom in – against the rocks – the breeze blowing across the water felt better than any imagined. Tulum, Mexico, is everything wonderful about the Mexican Caribbean. It’s getting discovered, but the sugar white beaches are still pleasantly quiet, the ocean is as clear.

Whether you travel Mexico and pack your trip packed of activities, or merely spend your time relaxing on the beach, there is truly an option for all Mexico Vacations.

Oceanside Adventures on your Manzanillo Mexico Travel

Travel Manzanillo Mexico, located between Puerto Vallarta and Acapulco in the state of Colima. It is positioned on what is commonly referred to as México’s “Golden Rivera.” This area was named for the occasional gold coin rumored to wash up on the beach, the result of a ship wreck less than 50 yards off shore.

Today, Manzanillo consists of two parts, the resort area on the Santiago Peninsula and the busy downtown commercial area to the south. Although Manzanillo is a busy port town, it has managed to retain to its laid back and tranquil feel accentuated with a lively authentic Mexican atmosphere. Book your stay at a Barcelo Hotel & Resort to take advantage of affordable Manzanillo vacation packages.

Manzanillo City Tour

With the city being recently renovated, a tour of Manzanillo is a must. Centered around a statue of a giant Marlin, downtown now offers more shopping and a new boardwalk along the harbor. Be sure and stop by Manzanillo’s oldest social club, “Bar Social”, as it has not changed since it was established in the 1940s. As you head from the harbor to the downtown area, you will see the “Jardin”, which means garden. This is where the locals come to have lunch, get a shoe shine, or just people watch. On cooler evenings bands will play in the gazebo.

Plantation Tours

Just north of Manzanillo are some of the most breathtaking countryside views in México. Gaze out over acres of coconut and banana plantations or tour the local mango and lime orchards and enjoy a refreshing drink.

El Salto Waterfall and Water park

Located just 40 minutes to the north of Manzanillo, this waterfall tops 100 ft. The drive is a spectacular adventure through rain forests and jungles and the local countryside. The blue pipeline you will see along the road carries iron ore from the Los Juanes mine at the top of the mountain, 37 miles south to Manzanillo. You’ll drive down the cobble stone entrance to the new water park. To get to the actual waterfall you need to continue to the bottom of the hill and park just after you cross the iron bridge. Unspoiled by tourism the waterfall is a must see.

Volcano Tours

Standing 14,200 feet, the snow capped and inactive Nevado de Colima Volcano, is a dramatic welcome to this area. Next to it is the 13,000 foot active Volcan de Colima. Volcan de Colima is México’s most active volcano and has erupted several times over the past 450 years. Manzanillo Barcelo

Going To Mexico Read This First

For visitors who plan on traveling to the South American country of Mexico, I will be providing you with detailed, useful information for your journey. The primary airport in Mexico City is the Benito Juarez International commonly called Mexico City International Airport. Landing at the Juan Alvarez International Airport in Acapulco will place you in close proximity to many hotels.
The Las Brisas Acapulco, The Grand Mayan Acapulco Wyndham Resort and the Camino Real Acapulco Diamante are all located in less than a five mile radius from the airport. Since taxis, buses and rental car agencies are all available inside of the airport, you will get there in no time. The airport itself is the largest international airport in Mexico’s Southern-Pacific region.
Acapulco Beaches
The La Bonfil beach is one of the best beaches in Mexico for surfing. Because of the high waves, many surfers flock here to surf. The waves are so high that swimming is actually frowned upon by the locals. Settled between Puerto Marques and Revolcadero Beach, La Bonfilso beach is a safe friendly place to visit. Caleta Beach is one of the most visited beaches located in Acapulco.
Its main attraction is the water itself. Families often come just to swim but the fishing is also excellent here. If you plan on taking a trip to Mexico just for the beach, you may want to consider a hotel reservation at The Fairmont Acapulco Princess. This four star hotel is conveniently located on Revolcadero Beach near the General Juan N Alvarez Airport. Spas, dining and golf are some of the hotel’s prominent highlights. This one of a kind hotel sits on nearly five hundred acres, with over seven hundred and fifty plant species growing.
Cozumel Restaurants
A big draw to Mexico is its authentic Mexican food prepared by the natives. The Costa Brava Restaurant of Cozumel caters traditional Mexican dishes in addition to seafood. Other restaurants include Mi Chabelita, El Moro and El Foco all located in the downtown Cozumel area. It isn’t difficult to get other styles of food in the Cozumel area either. People visiting from different parts of the world will find restaurants that serve the same meals that they are used to eating back home. For instance, Guido’s banquet facilities cater Italian food, while Tony Rome’s restaurant and bar serve up steak and shrimp. Blue Haus located inside of All Riviera Resort has an International menu that caters to everyone.
Los Cabos Mexico
There is quite a bit of entertainment activity to keep you busy year round in Los Cabos. Golfing, horseback riding, sailing, fishing and cruise tours make this one of Mexico’s most sought after destinations. Often referred to as paradise by tourist, Los Cabos warm water beaches stay that way because of the warm humid temperatures there. Summer temperatures normally stay in the mid to upper nineties with very little rain fall during that time. Snorkeling and scuba diving activity there is highly recommended.
Whether you like fun in the sun or rest and relaxation at a spa, traveling to Mexico is the way to go. Nice people, great food and perfect weather all make the trip worthwhile. Visit Cancun, Acapulco, Los Cabos, Cozumel or any of the many cities located in Mexico. Get your plane, hotel and restaurant reservations done and come experience all that Mexico has to offer.
